U.S. PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE
Patent Technology Monitoring Team (PTMT)
- this report was created with support from the National Science Foundation -
This report profiles U.S. patenting in 30 product fields that are based on the 2002 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). There are 26 unique fields, and 4 fields that are combinations or roll-ups of the 26 unique fields. In addition, an 'All Industries' profile category, consisting of all NAICS fields together, is included in the report. Patenting activity in the NAICS industry categories has been determined by using the primary U.S. Patent Classification System (USPC) patent classification assigned to each patent and a USPC to NAICS concordance. Patents included in this report are limited to 'utility patents', also known as 'patents for inventions'.
This report consists of separate tables that count and distribute patents in different ways:
For most users, fractional count tables 2A(i) to 2A(iv) are likely to be the ones of interest. See the General Description of the Report for further discussion about the data presented in the report tables.
