Claudia Murguia is a Policy Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), where she works closely with USPTO leadership to implement policy, programs, and operational initiatives to advance the Administration’s priorities for intellectual property policy, protection, and enforcement.
Ms. Murguia previously worked for Vice President Kamala D. Harris while she served as a Senator from California. In that role, Ms. Murguia represented the Senator in consultations with federal agencies and advocated for constituents on a variety of issues, including labor and immigration. Prior to that, Ms. Murguia served as a Legislative Officer in the Obama-Biden Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor, where she advocated for the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), the Office of Job Corps, and the International Labor Affairs Bureau on Capitol Hill. While at the Department of Labor, Ms. Murguia managed multiple projects, including OFCCP’s diversity and inclusion agency plan, for which she and her team were awarded the Secretary of Labor Honors Award. She began her career working for Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis of California and Congressman Ciro D. Rodriguez of Texas.
Ms. Murguia received a Bachelor of Arts in international relations with a minor in Spanish from Pomona College, and a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin’s Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.
