Valerie L. Calloway
Ms. Calloway is Associate General Counsel, Managing Intellectual Property Attorney, and Chief Trademark Counsel for IBM, where she leads the global team responsible for legally protecting IBM’s tens of thousands of brands and serves as an operations and administrative lead for IBM’s Intellectual Property Law professionals worldwide. Her practice includes trademark filing, clearance, prosecution, company acquisitions and divestitures, and development and execution of global brand protection strategies. Her term as a member began on December 1, 2023.
Thad Chaloemtiarana
Mr. Chaloemtiarana is a partner at Pattishall, McAuliffe, Newbury, Hilliard and Geraldson, LLP. He concentrates his practice on litigation and counseling in the areas of trademark and unfair competition law, copyright law, and information technology law. His experience includes litigation in federal court and before the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and transactional work, including the negotiation and licensing of intellectual property rights in a wide variety of areas. Mr. Chaloemtiarana manages, prosecutes, and enforces the worldwide trademark portfolios for several international companies in a variety of industries, including consumer goods, automotive, power tools and accessories, software and software-as-a-service, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnologies. He has litigated cases involving counterfeiting, trademark and trade dress infringement, false advertising and unfair competition, dilution, unauthorized importation of gray market goods, copyright infringement, breach of contract, and domain name cybersquatting. From 2022-2023, Mr. Chaloemtiarana served as Chair of the American Bar Association-Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL), and he currently serves as Vice Chair of the ABA-IPL’s Nominating Committee. Deborah Gerhardt
Ms. Gerhardt currently serves as the Reef C. Ivey II Excellence Fund Term Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Law. She specializes in IP law with an emphasis on the intersection of law and creativity, and she teaches Arts Entrepreneurship, Art Law, and Copyright and Trademark Law. In 2018, she was awarded UNC’s Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction. She received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support research to clarify whether art and historical documents are protected by copyright or in the public domain. Ms. Gerhardt is also Of Counsel at Michael Best & Friedrich, LLP and was elected to the American Law Institute in 2021. She is a member of the UNC Arts Everywhere Committee and a member of the UNC School of Law Appointments Committee. Ms. Gerhardt also served on UNC Law’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee from 2018-2021, and she currently provides pro bono services for artists, nonprofit arts organizations, and low-wealth entrepreneurs. Her term as a member began on December 1, 2022.
Donna Griffiths
Ms. Griffiths is a Trademark Specialist at Schneider Electric, a company that specializes in energy management and automation. She is primarily responsible for managing and maintaining large international and domestic portfolios. Prior to Schneider Electric, Ms. Griffiths also worked as a Senior Paralegal at CVS Health, where she maintained a trademark and patent docketing system, managed, and prosecuted both U.S. and foreign trademark filings. Ms. Griffiths is a member of the International Trademark Association and is also a member of the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Her term as a member began on December 1, 2022.
Amy Hsiao (Chair)
Ms. Hsiao is Chair of the Asia Trademark Practice of Eligon IP, where she is the lead counsel for numerous American brands, from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies, for global trademark and brand strategies. Amy focuses her practice on advising Western companies on trademark, copyright, and international business transactions in China and other Asian countries. Amy has pursued cases through all levels of China’s system and had achieved impressive wins both in terms of quantity and quality. She has worked with policy makers from the U.S. and Europe on trademark arbitrations, criminal counterfeit seizures, and product recalls. She often assumes the role of a business advisor because of her ability to articulate differences between Eastern and Western systems and to turn large volumes of raw data into meaningful, actionable branding strategies. She was invited by the USPTO to present at several of the agency’s roadshows on topics related to international brand strategies and advertising and compliance issues. Before Eligon, Ms. Hsiao was an associate at two law firms, including eight years at Kilpatrick Stockton. She is a current Co-Chair of the Anti-Counterfeiting and Privacy Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA), and was a member of the ABA’s Standing International IP Task Force from 2019-2021. Her term as a member began on December 1, 2022.
Nehal Madhani
Mr. Madhani is an attorney and the Founder and CEO of Alt Legal, a company whose cloud-based IP docketing software supports thousands of organizations in preparing, managing, and monitoring millions of IP filings and deadlines daily. He is also the Founding and Managing Director of International Intellectual Property Standards Group, a non-profit organization that defines and advocates for the standardization, accessibility and availability of IP laws and data across IP offices. Mr. Madhani is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) as the vice-chair of the Trademark Administrators Committee. He is passionate about improving accessibility to high-quality, free legal resources and the intersection of trademark practice and technology and its impact for streamlining the trademark prosecution process. Douglas N. Masters (Vice Chair)
Mr. Masters is Managing Partner at the law firm of Loeb & Loeb, LLC’s Chicago office, where he litigates and counsels clients primarily in the areas of IP, advertising and unfair competition. He helps brand owners, sports leagues, athletes and advertisers protect and leverage their branding, marketing and other IP assets. He helps brand owners protect and leverage their IP assets across a wide range of industries, including sports, retail, food and beverage. He also has notable experience advising companies in domain name protection and enforcement proceedings, and matters of litigation relating to the unique issues of online marketing and advertising. Mr. Masters represents clients in court, and he practices regularly before the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. His term as a member began on December 1, 2023.
Michael Moore
Mr. Moore is Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, and Global Head of Intellectual Property of Content and Brands for Mattel, Inc. He serves as a senior leader in the global toy industry, overseeing intellectual property matters for Mattel. He manages a team of attorneys and paralegal professionals across multiple jurisdictions charged with the intellectual property protection of such brands as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, Thomas and Friends, Polly Pocket, SCRABBLE, UNO, and many more. Mr. Moore served as past Chair of the International Trademark Association (INTA) Political Action Committee Board of Governors, is a current member of the INTA Women’s Leadership Initiative Project Team, and was recently elected to INTA’s Board of Directors as an officer. His term as a member began on December 1, 2024.
Sanjana Sharma
Ms. Sharma is Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property and Marketing at UL Solutions. She is responsible for leading the intellectual property team, which manages the protection and enforcement of the UL Solutions global intellectual property portfolio, including the renowned “UL-in-a-circle” certification mark and the invention management program, which encompasses UL Solutions’ technical and safety science expertise. Ms. Sharma supervises all intellectual property disputes, including global anti-counterfeiting litigation, and supports the UL Solutions marketing and business teams in the implementation of strategies and programs for the protection and branding of UL Solutions’ intellectual property assets.
