Chris Shipp is the Chief of Staff for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In this role, Mr. Shipp serves as a principal advisor to the Director and helps coordinate the agency’s budget in support of the employees to execute the daily operations, policies, priorities, and global communications of the President’s intellectual property agenda. He also serves on the USPTO’s Executive Committee and manages the day-to-day policy coordination process with the White House, the Department of Commerce, and other federal agencies.
For almost four years during the first Trump Administration, Mr. Shipp served in several senior roles at the USPTO, including Deputy Chief Communications Officer, Chief Communications Officer, Executive Advisor overseeing the Western Regional Outreach Office, and Chief of Staff.
Mr. Shipp has also run a public relations consulting company, and he served as the Montana State Director for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, a 2024 Republican National Committee Platform Member, and a Platform Committee Whip. Mr. Shipp also held multiple positions with the Montana Republican Party, serving as Executive Director and Communications Director over the course of three election cycles.
Mr. Shipp graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana, with majors in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Political Science, and Public Administration. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Montana School of Law.
