Additional information

Since 2012, the Patents for Humanity awards competition has showcased how patent holders with vision are meeting global humanitarian challenges, pioneering innovative ways to provide affordable, scalable, and sustainable solutions for those in need. The USPTO expanded the program in 2023 to include a new Green Energy category for those who are responding rapidly to the challenges of climate change by developing green energy sources that use game-changing technologies.

Patents for Humanity winners will receive an acceleration certificate to expedite select proceedings at the USPTO, as well as public recognition of their work.

The USPTO launched the Trademarks for Humanity awards program to recognize brand owners who are harnessing the power of trademarks to help solve humanitarian challenges. For the 2023 inaugural awards cycle, the program focused on the environment, recognizing brand owners improving the environment through the products or services they offer in connection with a federally registered trademark.

In addition to recognition at the awards ceremony, winners will be featured in a future article on the USPTO website.
