EFS-Web and Private PAIR users will no longer be able to authenticate using PKI certificates after February 15, 2019. There is now a new, simpler, and safer login method. The USPTO is moving from using PKI certificates for two-factor authentication because the software will no longer be supported.
If you or your support staff do not already have USPTO.gov accounts, you and each of your staff will need to create one and opt in for two-step authentication.
If you are a registered practitioner or independent inventor with an existing PKI digital certificate, use the Migration Tool with these step-by-step instructions to link your new USPTO.gov account to your current PKI digital certificates. The Migration Tool will be available until March 1, 2019.
Learn more about the changes at one of a series of virtual informational sessions hosted by the USPTO’s eCommerce Modernization team. Each session will last approximately one hour. Register for one of the sessions listed below, and visit the authentication change page for step-by-step instructions.
Please note that the sessions will be updated to reflect additional information as it becomes available.
Session schedule (all times are ET):
Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 2 – 3 p.m.
Wednesday, February 20, 2019, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Thursday, February 28, 2019, 2 – 3 p.m.
We welcome attendees to register for multiple sessions, because new information will be added as it becomes available. Upon registration, you will see a confirmation page as a part of the “thank you” screen to indicate successful registration. We will reach out at the provided email address on the morning of your scheduled session to provide attendees with the link to join the information session virtually.
