Michelle Saksena is a Senior Research Economist at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Her current research interests delve into the economic impacts of inclusivity of underrepresented groups in the IP ecosystem using microeconomics and applied microeconometrics methods. Prior to working at the USPTO, she was a research economist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service (ERS) in the Food Economics Division. While at ERS, Michelle authored several peer-reviewed articles and reports, including “America’s Eating Habits: Food Away From Home,” a comprehensive report on food away from home in the United States. Michelle holds a Ph.D. in agricultural, environmental, and development economics from The Ohio State University, a M.S. from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
