Earlier this month, USPTO employees were excited to join educators from across the nation at The
Lemelson Foundation's InventEd Convening! The event featured some trailblazing emerging inventors in the medical field like Dasia Taylor, whose color-changing sutures can detect infection early, and Dr. Arlyne Simon, a biomedical engineer who authors the children's book series, Abby Invents.
In a fireside chat between Arlyne Simon and USPTO Deputy Director Derrick Brent, the two talked about the importance of representation in innovative fields, ensuring all creative and driven innovators have the opportunity to bring their dreams to reality, and encouraging children to see themselves as inventors and problem-solvers.
Read more about Simon's work to encourage other girls and women of color to invent and create.
