Dr. Nicholas Rada is the Deputy Chief Economist at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Dr. Rada’s research at the USPTO has focused on the relationship between intellectual property and economic growth. He joined the USPTO in 2019 from the Economic Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. There, Dr. Rada investigated the nexus between science policy, food security, and total factor productivity (TFP) growth in rapidly emerging agricultural competitors Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, and China. Dr. Rada started his career by receiving a B.S. in Economics and an M.S. in Agricultural Economics from West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Oregon State University.
