Office of Patent Quality Assurance

The Office of Patent Quality Assurance (OPQA) is committed to the continuous improvement of patent quality that drives efficiency; OPQA delivers meaningful and accurate assessments of patent quality for the benefit of both internal and external stakeholders. OPQA performs regular review of Patents’ work products for compliance with statutory requirements and use of best practices to enhance quality and affect individual efficiency gains; our findings are published as patent quality metrics whose analysis identifies opportunities for increased productivity. OPQA also undertakes targeted, strategic studies aimed at investigating a specific quality issue, topic, or process as well as providing data-driven recommendations to enhance competencies in identified areas of need. In addition, OPQA supports the examining corps and other areas of the USPTO with quality improvement plans, training needs, and assessment of work product to tackle challenging examination efficiency issues and support impeccable work product through robust collaboration.
