The Office of Governmental Affairs works within and across government to support the mission of the USPTO by:
- Formulating legislative and policy proposals that influence intellectual property policy and analyzing external proposals that impact the agency or IP policy
- Serving as a conduit of information between the USPTO, Congress, and external stakeholders on agency matters and policy
- Supporting agency executives who are called on to testify at congressional hearings or briefings by preparing testimony and briefing materials
- Facilitating communications between federal agencies as well as state and local government entities to help coordinate IP policy and activities
