Todd Tiberi

General Counsel and Principal Legal Advisor

Todd Tiberi is the General Counsel and principal legal advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Mr. Tiberi began his legal career as a law clerk to a federal judge. After his clerkship, he practiced patent litigation in New York City for multinational law firms before entering the business world as in-house general counsel and vice president of business development for a company in Los Angeles. He co-founded an investment and operating company, partnering with a financial sponsor. That company acquired a company where Mr. Tiberi was an investor and served as a C-level executive. He managed the worldwide intellectual property portfolio, as well as patent and other litigation, commercial law, and mergers and acquisitions. He later served as outside general counsel and investor for a portfolio company of a private equity firm before joining the USPTO.

Mr. Tiberi earned an LL.M. from Columbia University, where he was a Stone Scholar. His J.D. degree is from the University of Pittsburgh (Law Review, University Outstanding Student), and he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
