USPTO announces winners of the 2025 National Patent Application Drafting Competition

The USPTO hosted the final round of the National Patent Application Drafting Competition (NPADC) on April 4 at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Congratulations to the winners:

First place: University of Minnesota Law School
Second place: University of St. Thomas School of Law
Third place: University of Wisconsin Law School
Finalists: University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Arizona State University - Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law

Over the past few months, competitors honed their patent application drafting, amending, and prosecution skills. The competition narrowed from over 40 team registrations to the top five teams, who presented to our panel of judges. In addition to gaining practical experience they will use in their future careers, the students interacted with leaders in the intellectual property community.
