Chenyan Wu is licensed to practice patent work in China and also passed the U.S. Patent Bar Exam. She has over 15 years of work experience in the field of intellectual property (IP), including one and a half years working at a U.S. patent firm and a two-month internship at a multinational corporation based in the United States.
She has overseen U.S. and foreign client relations and case management for patent and trademark matters since 2008.
Wu has served as vice chair of the Patent Cooperation Treaty Issues Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). She has also worked for telecommunication and semiconductor clients for 14 years and has extensive experience in patent matters, covering prosecution, invalidation, and opinion works. She helps multinational corporations protect their IP worldwide through IP strategy, patent portfolio management, and enforcement matters.
Her practice areas include patent application in China, patent invalidation in China, patent litigation in China, patent protection in countries outside of China, and IP protection in greater China.
Wu has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from North China University of Technology and a master’s degree in intellectual property from the University of New Hampshire School of Law. She is a member of the U.S. Patent Bar and a member of the People’s Republic of China Patent Bar.

Jonathan Miao joined NTD in 2003 and has worked with the firm as a patent attorney and patent litigator. He has abundant experience in patent prosecution, patent litigation, and other patent-related legal matters. He now leads a team specializing in providing legal services in the fields of chemistry and biotech. The services provided by this team include patent invalidation, patent search and patent monitoring, freedom to operate (FTO) search and analysis, patent litigation (including administrative litigation and infringement litigations), enforcement at trade fairs, conducting infringement investigations and on-spot due diligence check, trade secret investigation and protection, IP strategy consulting, and more.
He has a B.S. in organic chemistry from Sichuan University, an M.S. in physical chemistry from Peking University, and an LLM from the Temple University Law School. He is a member of the All China Patent Agent Association and the All China Lawyer Association and is fluent in both Mandarin and English.

Larry Lian is a senior attorney with the China Team within the USPTO's Office of Policy and International Affairs, where he provides legal and policy advice on domestic and international IP issues, particularly on licensing, patent, and pharmaceutical issues. He also manages the China Resource Center, which was established under the USPTO’s 2014–2018 strategic plan to develop and advocate empirical data analysis to guide USPTO initiatives and policy recommendations.
Before joining the USPTO Lian was in private practice for five years with Syncoda and Foley Lardner, where he focused on patent law as well as food and drug law. Before that, he was a student law clerk for Judge Franklin Van Antwerpen of the Third Circuit and Judge Paul Tressler of the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas.
Prior to his career in law, Lian worked as a scientist with three leading biopharmaceutical companies: Myriad Genetics, Cytogen/Jazz Pharmaceuticals, and Barr/Teva Pharmaceuticals. At these companies he was responsible for research and development of new drug targets and new drugs, as well as for presenting clinical trial analysis for approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He has co-authored a number of scientific papers in leading journals such as Cancer Research.
Lian holds a J.D. from the Temple University School of Law and an M.S. in biology from Nankai University in China.
