Tomas Vlcek

Acting Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Operations

Tom Vlcek is the acting Deputy Commissioner for Trademark Operations. In this role, Mr. Vlcek oversees the Pre-Examination, Madrid Processing, Examination Support, Intent to Use and Post Registration units, as well as the Law Offices for the examining attorneys.

Mr. Vlcek joined the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 1990 as a trademark examining attorney. He became a supervisory senior attorney in 1994, and a law office managing attorney in 1998. From 2008 to 2010, he served as a staff attorney in the Office of the Undersecretary, and in 2010 became a Group Director of Trademark Law Offices. During his many years in the Trademark organization, Mr. Vlcek has been involved in a wide range of activities, from the development of procedures for examination of single-color trademarks, to negotiating labor agreements, to developing systems for monitoring, measuring, and predicting Trademark organization performance.

Mr. Vlcek received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law. He is a member of the North Carolina bar.
